Student Services

We are very excited to work with students and parents on developing their educational plan as they go through our high school. If you are interested in what we have to offer here at Staples-Motley, please call 218.894.2431 and we would enjoy sitting down with you to discuss the future here at our high school.

Here are some of the services we offer to our students:

What do school counselors do?

  1. Counselors serve students individually, and in groups to help them grow personally and socially.
  2. Counselors support in developing an individual plan for academic success.
  3. Counselors help students with career exploration and career planning.
  4. Counselors work with all students, parents, and teachers to improve students’ achievement.
  5. Counselors show students how to develop positive attitudes, make effective decisions, resolve conflicts, and respect others.

HOW CAN WE ASSIST YOU?

Individual Counseling:
A confidential relationship that the counselor conducts with students individually discussing issues such as peer relations, academic concerns, family issues, and personal growth.

Group Counseling:
A few students who meet in confidential sessions to handle specific concerns or support each other with particular developmental goals. Common groups revolve around the following topics: friendship, family change, anger management, study skills, grief and loss, and self-esteem.

Large Group Guidance:
A planned, developmental program of guidance activities designed to foster students’ academic, career, and personal/social development. It is provided for all students through a collaborative effort by counselors and teachers.

Consultation:
A collaborative partnership in which the counselor works with parent, teachers, administrators, school psychologists, social workers, medical professionals, and community health personnel in order to plan and implement strategies to help students be successful in the educational field.

Coordination:
A leadership process in which the counselor helps organize, manage, and evaluate the school counseling program. The counselor assists parents in obtaining needed services for their children through a referral and follow-up process and serves as a liaison between the school and community agencies so that they may collaborate in efforts to help students
